Coastal Seniors is currently hiring for the following positions:

Kitchen Manager

Under general supervision and according to the Area Agency on Aging Food and Nutrition guidelines, prepare meals served to Coastal Seniors’ congregate and home-delivered meal clients. This position will report the Executive Director and will work closely with our Nutrition Program Manager to plan meals.
 
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Ensures that all lunches meet the Older American’s Act (OAA) Title III-C Nutrition Program Standards.

  • Responsible for preparing all hot and frozen meals served during congregate lunches and delivered to Meals on Wheels clients.
  • Facilitates & supervises lunch service in dining rooms
  • Facilitates & supervises Meals on Wheels packaging.
  • Responsible for supervising all kitchen employees and volunteers.
  • Assists with hiring and training of new kitchen employees.
  • Participates in the food budget and control process under the direction of the Nutrition Program Manager and the Executive Director.
  • Keeps accurate records of purchases.
  • Maintains an inventory of stored foods and rotates foods on a “first in/first out” basis.
  • Keeps on file for AAA Nutritionist and Health Department; daily temperature chart, menu breakdown, and individual temperature charts for each freezer and each refrigerator.
  • Responsible for transporting the necessary ingredients to prepare meals for the Tuesday lunch in Gualala.
  • Maintains kitchen and all equipment in a clean and safe working environment. Assigns cleaning tasks to employees as needed.
  • Any other duties not listed above that are necessary to fulfill the position of Kitchen Manager.
 
Knowledge and Skills
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of nutrition and food chemistry.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of sanitary requirements for food preparation.
  • Must understand the general dietary needs of older adults.
  • Must enjoy working with older adults
  • Must possess a desire to help members of our community.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Must have basic experience using Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel, as well as use of the Internet.
  • Must have excellent verbal communication skills including proper telephone etiquette.
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills.
  • Must have ability to understand urgency, and to be flexible with ever-changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Must work well with others in a fast-paced, client-service oriented environment and be responsive to co-workers and colleagues.
  • Must have the ability to take initiative.
 
Experience & Requirements
  •  Five or more years of experience as a cook in a commercial kitchen or similar environment.
  • Two or more years of experience supervising a kitchen staff
  • Must possess a CA ServSafe Food Safety Kitchen Manager certificate or ability to obtain upon hire.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to 20-30 pounds.
  • Must be able to lift, bend, and stand for long periods
 
 
This is a part-time position working from 6:30 am – 1:30 pm Monday-Thursday. The salary range is $18-$25 per hour depending on experience.
